The Mail system
A lot of people think that the mail system is becoming largely obsolete. I mean what is the point of sending a letter which is expensive and takes a while when you can send a free instant email? The postal service is slow and unreliable, the postman are always on strike for one thing or another so why bother. Movies are available online so why order them? Yet the postal service is still necessary. Everyone always feels excited when you get a letter or a package, much more so than when receiving an email. Also think of a site like an Amazon, they can hardly email you a book or a computer. The postal service is one of the most important parts of society and yet it is always forgotten under a wave of technology.

Amazon doesnt go through the post, they use UPS, FEDEX, or DHL. but yeah, i still love getting letters in the mail.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the mail system is neccessary for some things, like shipping packages and for many companies to do their jobs but at the same time I feel that it is pointless to mail a letter to a friend when nothing particularly interesting is happening and you could just email or text them..
ReplyDeleteAmazon may not use the postal service, but it still doesn't send things electronically because it physically can't. That's the point Matt is trying to make.
ReplyDeleteGetting a letter is something special. My grandparents still send my sister and I funny little letters on holidays and birthdays, just showing us that they care and are thinking of us. I also often send mail to my close friends who live some other place across the world. I think it shows they are more important. You could send an email to anyone, but when you take the time, effort, and money to send a couple letters or postcards in the post, it shows you care.
Although I agree with Matt, companies and people are now being given more and more options to distribute this digitally unless they must be physical. This does not change that games, movies, music, and books can be recieved through electronic means.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think that postal mail is becoming less necessary, though is still needed for certain aspects. I think physical mail is more personal, and I too still get letters from family members which are so much more fun to open and read than an email.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that people like the feeling of getting mail shouldn't affect the significance of mailman. Important packages ect.. are always shipped.
ReplyDeletei agree that it is fun to get a letter, but the postal system is becoming obsolete. also amazon ships their stuff through UPS an DSL, not through the postal service
